What is Encryption?

Encryption is the method or process of converting any plain data into the unreadable encoded format. This method helps to protect data from the understanding of any unauthorized users even if they get access to data anyhow. It is widely used by tech companies to secure the data of their company and of their users.

Even most probably you have also listened about encryption while using WhatsApp. WhatsApp provides end-end encryption while messaging. But wait, if it encrypts a sender message then how could the receiver understand the encrypted message.

Well, here is the thing where decryption came to role-play. Decryption is the process of decoding the encrypted data into a readable format using some algorithms. It means the message is again decrypted and shown to the receiver. But how this process of encryption and decryption works?

How does it work?

Encryption uses algorithms and a secret key to encrypt the data and again uses some algorithms and a secret key(sometimes maybe the same may be different) to decrypt it. A secret key (or encryption key) is a series of numbers generated by using some algorithms in order to encrypt or decrypt the data.

Methods of encryption:
There are two types of encryption. They are:
1.Symmetric Encryption:
In this method of encryption, a single key is used for both encrypting and decrypting data. That means the same key is used for both sender and receiver.
2.Asymmetric Encryption:
In this method of encryption, two different keys are used for encrypting and decrypting. It means we cannot use the same key for both encryption and decryption. Both require a single different key.
